Having been raised by parents (role models) with good values, I learned at a young age about giving back to your community. Since I was a teen I have volunteered in numerous capacities, a tradition which I still do today – giving back, utilizing your skills, knowledge and of one’s self is an important factor which has made me the person I am today. When I built my business in late 2016, I did this for, not only my love of travel and adventure, but “my need” to help/assist others to travel, enjoy and learn about the world as I have been fortunate to do.
In my early stages of business, getting out there to network, let people know about me and the services of Wanderlust Excursions, I was fortunate enough to learn of and join Business Network International (BNI) here in Nova Scotia. Through this platform and fellow members I have been able to grow my business, as well as, been fortunate enough to develop ongoing business to business relations with other entrepreneurs and non-profits organizations, such as Make-A-Wish. Many wonderful alliances have developed, one that has given me an opportunity to give back to a wonderful organization!

“Research shows that children who have wishes granted can build the physical and emotional strength they need to fight a critical illness. Our project partner, Wanderlust Excursions will aid us with our mission of wish granting to children living with critical illness.”
Make-A-Wish Canada – Facts:
- Make-A-Wish Canada has granted over 34,000 wishes since 1983 to courageous children across the country with the help of over 2000 volunteers
- Wishes are funded from individual donations, special events, corporate donations and sponsorships, workplace giving donations, foundation grants, and a fundraising program in schools.
- When a wish is granted, a child replaces fear with confidence, sadness with joy and anxiety with hope – a powerful combination that may lead to better health outcomes. Such transformativE moments are shared by wish families, Make-A-Wish staff, volunteers, and everyone involved.
Each week I have an opportunity to learn more about this wonderful organization and all of the wonderful wishes granted for children. With previous knowledge added with more in-depth information shared by Joyce (MAW) I was left one question: “How can I help and give back in a significant way?”
Well, the answer came to me quite quickly – with the services and suppliers that I have through Wanderlust Excursions I have the ability to do just that. So, next step, put together a proposal of a Fundraising Initiative and present it to Make-A-Wish Atlantic. Thus, “Sailing for Wishes” has been born!
Sailing for Wishes: There is no better time to give back to a wonderful children’s’ initiative for Grant Wishing then the Holiday Season! Christmas Season – a time of Joy, Giving, Celebration, Family, Faith ~ Let our Giving Hearts spread joy and laughter. Then gazing at the Star a top a tree and know we have helped to make a Child’s Wish come true.
You can embark on a Holiday Adventure of your own, sailing on the rivers of Europe on a Christmas Market Themed Cruise. Experience and Shop at some of Europe’s most beautiful markets and cities. Christmas is a magical time of year for us all; it is a time when children’s wishes come true…. How can you help? By booking a cabin for our upcoming Sailing for Wishes 2022, Wanderlust Excursions will make a donation to Make-A-Wish. Wanderlust Excursion’s along with Make-A-Wish Atlantic’s goal is to raise funds that will allow the wishes of two children (Wth an estimated $10,000 CAD per wish/per child) we cannot attain this goal without your gracious help.
The Sailing for Wishes Campaign will launch in September, 2021 with departure in November, 2022 aboard AmaWaterways AmaCerto for Christmas Markets on the Rhine. We expect the allotted cabins to sell quickly! Don’t be left disappointed – the campaign will run from September 7th to November 15, 2021.
